GANGSTER MENACE.

DRASTIC SENTENCES URGED. Drastic sentences on gangsters is advocated by a sub-committee of Glasgow Corporation, who recommend that the city magistrates should impose salutary sentences of imprisonment without the option of a fine on offenders carrying lethal weapons or being concerned in gang warfare. They state that the magistrates as a body should declare publicly that it is their firm conviction that the menace can to a great extent be stamped out by severe and exemplary terms of imprisonment. Chief Constable Sillitoe expressed his views on measures for the suppression of gangsters at a meeting of the subcommittee.
