CUSTOMS REVENUE

INCREASE AT WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. Customs revenue collected at Wellington from all sources in September totalled £422,802, an increase of £83,-. 32C over September, 1935. Sales tax for September, a total of £95,1(10, established a new record. The net Customs total for tiie nine months of the current year exceeds the figure lor the corresponding period of 1935 by £449,162. Tho net Customs revenue collected at Wellington in September totalled £283,601, as compared with £227,827 in September, 1935, an increase of £55,774. Duty collected on motor spirit for September totalled £62,134, as compared with £47,162 for September, 1935, an increase of £14,972. The Customs revenue collected from all sources for the last nine months totals £3.596,742, an increase of £705,374, or just over 25 per cent, over the figures of £2,891.368 for the same period last year. The total for September is £411,258, ail increase oi £59.345 over September, 1935. Customs duties alone for the nine months, £2.299,536, show an increase of £401,452. or nearly 251 per cent. The September figure, £261,290, is better by £25,632 than that for September last year. Motor spirit and tyre duties together have yielded £504.407. or £163.717 more for the niir months. The sales tax receipts It September, 76,455, break the re cord established in August, when til total was £72,922. Last Septem ber’s figure was £57,934. The increase lor the nine months is £llß.002, oi' a little over 25 per cent. The excise duty on beer has returned £llß,410 since the beginning of the year, an increase of £22.213. The collection tor September was £16,837, against £10.368 in September last year. Dunedin.—Due principally to the arrival during the month of an unusually large number of overseas vessels, the amount of Cus- • toms revenue collected during September at this port of Dunedin is the largest since August. 1934. and a comparison with the figures for September, 1935, shows an increase of no 1 less than £5973. The returns for the half year just ended also show a considerable increase when compared with those for the corresponding period of last year, collections for the first six months of the current financial year amounting to £353,204, and those ior the first half of the last 12 monthly period to £308,022.
