DAFFODIL SHOW.
NATIONAL AAV ARDS
Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Oct. 1. The National Daffodil Show, held in conjunction with the Invercargill Horticultural Society’s spring show, was opened to-day. From many parts of the South Island and also from the North Island members of the National Daffodil Society sent blooms to the show, which from the point of view of both entries and quality is a great success. The national entries number about 130, which figure eclipses those at any previous national show, apart from Christchurch and Dunedin, held in the South Island. The judge (Rev. W. W. Avery) said that for quality the winning exhibits compared favourably with those shown at the Auckland show. The champion of champions bloom was a Rewa variety shown by 11. Dick (Oainani). Major awards in the national show were won as follow: Wilson Perpetual Challenge Cup.—A. Gibson (Marton). Canterbury Horticultural Society’s Challenge Cup.—G. H. Brownlee (Dunedin).
Rhodes Silver Challenge Cup.—J. T. Gray (Dunedin). Oamaru Clip.—J. T. Gray. New Zealand Seedling Challenge Cup. —lt. Dick (Oamaru). South Island Amateur Cup.—C. G. Hayes (Invercargill).
