REMAND ON BAIL.
CHRISTCHURCH CASE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 2. The sum of £BO,OOO was said to be involved when Osmond Arthur Bridgewater, a. city sharebroker, appeared before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with share-hawking. Bridgewater, according to the charge, had during tho past three years, namely, on November 1, 1935, at Oamaru, gone from house to house offering shares in tho Australasian Investment Corporation, Ltd., a company incorporated in New Zealand, to certain persons, namely, debenture-holders in the Investment Executive Trust, Ltd. I lie information was a private one laid under the Companies Act, 1933. It was agreed to remand Bridgewater till October 15. Substantial ba.il was asked for by Mr Young, counsel for the prosecution). “The evidence will be that no less than £BO,OOO is involved,” lie said. “Other prosecutions depend on the result of this hearing.” “That is sheer exaggeration,” complained Mr Lee (counsel for accused). The Magistrate fixed bail at £SOO, with one surety of £SOO, and ordered Bridgewater to report daily to the police.
