STATE OF HOUSES.
STRICTER LAW REQUIRED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. In a reserved judgment, Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., allowed an appeal against a Wellington City Council closing order served by the council upon the Public Trustee as owner of a house on which it demanded certain repairs, but a requisition under the Public Health Act was not complied with. Mr Luxford said thut, unfortunately, tlie law did not yet empower any authority to compel owners of house property to keep them in what an ordinary- minded citizen would call a docent state of repar. He said it was to be hoped that in the near future legislative enactment would give power to some authority to exercise a control to ensure that all houses were kept in good order and condition until they reach an age when they should be demolished.
