MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. A series of matters affecting the con-| trol of tennis in the Manawatu were! dealt with at a meeting of the Mana-, watu Lawn Tennis Association’s man-j agement committee last evening. | Mr J. T. McDonald was elected chairman for the season. j Advice was received from the Mana- > watu club of the name of a member who, it was stated, had not paid his subscription, and other clubs are to he notified of the name of this player. The Otaki club advised that it would not he affiliating with the association this season.—lt was decided to endeavour to persuade the officers of the club to reverse their decision. The action of the secretary in applying to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association for January 6,7, 8 and 9 for the Manawatu open tournament was confirmed. As a challenge could not be sent m before November a recommendation from the annual meeting that one be ; issued for the Christie Cup was held over for fuller discussion at the next meeting. The various clubs are to be asked

to enter teams for A. B and C grade inter-club competitions in the northern section and for one grade in the .southern section. Entries are to close on October 27. The chairman suggested that the committee consideration to the question of dividing the B grade i this season into several divisions of ! four teams each. This would allow , semi-finals to be played between the 1 winners of each section and also a final. 1 Ho thought such a scheme would en--1 gender more keenness. The matter is I to be further considered. | The Whakarongo club asked that games start at 1 p.m. and the committee approved of the suggestion. The same club also asked if there was a likelihood of a country clubs competition. —It was decided to circularise country clubs to ascertain what support would be forthcoming.
