CAUSE OF CANCER.
A NEW THEORY. LONDON, Sept. 28. Chosen from cancer research workers of 45 countries to receive the first international prize of £350 and radium worth £3OO, Professor E. L. Kennaway and J. W. Cook, of the Royal Cancer Hospital, London, stated that they thought cancer was caused by a chemical change in tlie body, and not by a living organism. “We have converted some normal constituents of the body into cancerproducing productions,” they said. “We have reached a working hypothesis that the disease may be caused by a biochemical process taking the wrong turning and creating a product which acts on the cells and forms a cancer. If we could find why, we would then probably prevent it.” Both hastened to warn that no cure had been found.
