BRITISH PROTEST
SEIZURE OF ALLEGED RUMRUNNER. The British Government on August IS made representations to the United State against the seizure off the New England coast of tho British ship Miserinko on March 14 last with 1200 cases of alcohol aboard. The protest was made on tlie ground that the ship was outside the hour’s sailing limit. The Miserinko was arrested when a number of rum-runners, it is alleged, were attempting to tranship a cargo. According to the Treasury Department, the vessel is registered at Barbados, and is owned by the Canadian Corporation of Halifax, which is in its turn owned by Americans. Six of tlie crew, who were understood to have been Canadians, were sentenced to up to 10 months’ imprisonment, while tho alleged principals, who are Americans, pleaded guilty, according to officials, and were heavily fined with suspended gaol sentences. The State Department announced that it is giving the British Government’s representations "courteous consideration.”
