EFFORT TO GET RECRUITS
The former Governor of New South Wales, Sir Philip Game, who is now Metropolitan Commissioner of Police, is still trying to get policewomen for London. No women without a secondary school education need apply. Other qualifications are as follow: Nobody under 24 or over 35 will be accepted. Height must be sft 4in or over. Ability to hold their own and hold their prisoners is essential. All applicants must pass the tests laid down by Scotland Yard women doctors. Character must be beyond reproach. A Police Court conviction or a divorce will disqualify. Experience of work among women and girls will help. Pay begins at 51s 3d a week with an allowance added for lodgings if free quarters are not provided. A scheme will soon be started to build special quarters for policewomen.
