SUCCESSFUL EFFORT

Held in All Saints’ Parish Hall, last night, a fair in aid of the Takaro Church funds proved most successful. The function was organised l>y the Ladies’ Guild, headed by Mrs T. B. Arlidge (president) and Mrs 0. Dunstan (secretary) and credit is due to them for the efficient manner in which the fair was conducted. It is expected that as a. result of the effort £2O will be added to the funds.

The fair was officially opened by the Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford). who was presented with a posy by Avis le Cheminant. In calling upon Mrs Mansford to officiate, Rev. Canon G. Y. Woodward offered his good wishes and explained the purpose of the gathering. He stated that tin's annual effort could not be held in the Takaro Hall owing to that building being at present in use for the overflow of children from Central School.

Mrs Mansford apologised for the unavoidabe absence of the Mayor and returned thanks to Mrs Arlidge for the invitation to be present. She assured tlie audience that both she and Mr Mansford had a soft spot for Takaro, as it was there Mr Mansford had made his first public appearance after assuming office, and they were always glad to' further its activities. The speaker stressed the value of such cooperative efforts as bazaars and fairs, particularly as a means of bringing church workers together. In declaring the fair open, Mrs Mansford expressed the hope that the stalls would be cleared of all articles by closing time and that the promoters would be well rewarded by the effort. Well-laden stalls testified to the work and enthusiasm that had gone to the preparation of the fair, those in charge being as follow: —Guild stall, Mesdames A. D. Barkwith a.nd S.
