PROPOSED ENGLISH TOUR. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. The extent to which negotiations have progressed between the Football Association (London) and New Zealand Football Association for an English tour of New Zealand in 1937 was disclosed at a meeting of the council of the latter body to-night. Provisional arrangements have already been made for a team to leave on the Chitral on April 20, and Australia is anxious to take four weeks of tho nine weeks’ tour, the estimated cost to the Australian Association being £1520. In reply to a cable from the New Zealand Council asking if the suggested Australian matches met with their approval, tho Football Association cabled agreeing to the Australian matches subject to there being no serious extension in the time of the tour. In addition to actual fares and hotel expenses in Australia and New Zealand, the message stated that approximately £750 would have to be added for assembling the players, equipment, insurance and incidental expenses. A cable was read from the Australian Football Association agreeing to co-operate with the English tour on the assumption that Australia would secure four Saturday matches and that the amount involved would be a pro rata of overhead expenses. The chairman (Mr J. A. Milburn; said the extra amount mentioned in the English cable had not been allowed for. It was a matter for the urgent consideration of the finance committee.
Mr F. Campbell suggested that the Football Association be asked to assemble and outfit the team, the amount expended to he the first charge on the profits of the tour. The whole matter has been referred to the finance committee.
