HOCKEY
FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNEY. The weekly competitions having concluded, the Alanawatu Hockey Association staged a five-a-side tournament at the Hokowhitu Domain on Saturday, six teams competing in the senior division and seven in the junior. The weather conditions were not very good, there being a strong wind, but fortunately the rain held off. In the senior division, Broadway A beat Alassey College in the final play-off by 7 goals to 1. and in the junior grade Phoenix secured the final honours by beating Alassey G'ollege 13, 5 goals to nil. The duties of tournament managci were ably carried out by Air AY. G. Sutton, while other officials controlling the games wore: Alessrs AA T . Lundy, L. ALartin, H. Byers, F. AlcLachlan and AV. H. AVilson. Results of play are as follow: SENIOR. Section A.—Combined Services 2 v. Alassey College 0; Broadway C 2 v. Combined Services 0; Alassey College 2 v. Broadway C 0. A replay was necessary in this section as each team had secured one win. This resulted: Combined Services 1, Broadway C O; Alassey College beat Combined Services after extra time had been played, 2 goals and a hit over the line to 2 goals. Section B.—-Phoenix A 3 v. Broadway B 0; Broadway A 2 v. Phoenix A 1; Broadway A 5 v. Broadway B 2. Final.—Broadway A 7 v. Alassey College 1. JUNIOR.
Section A.—Alassey College B 2 v. Broadway A 1; Alassey College B 1 v. Alassey College A 0; Broadway A 3 v. Massey College A 1.
Section B.—Combined Services 2 v. Broadway B 1; Phoenix A 6 v. Phoenix B 0; Phoenix A 3 v. Combined Services 0; Phoenix B 1 v. Broadway B 0; Combined Services 3 v. Phoenix B 0; Phoenix A 4 v. Broadway B 0. Final.--Phoenix A 5 v. Alassey' College B r . , . . Alassey College scored early in their match with Broadway A to decide the final of the senior division, Cottier on the left wing finding the net. However, that was their only point and for the remainder of the game play greatly favoured Broadway A. Of the latter team’s forwards. O’Brien and C. Min'd went well and were always dangerous when in possession. Scorers for Broadway A were: O’Brien (2), AYard (4) and Davey. RESULTS IN OTHER CENTRES. Results of hockey matches played in other centres on Saturday are as follow : Auckland.—University 5 v. Training College 2; Grammar 0.8. 10 v. Papatoetos 3; St. Luke’s 5 v.
