BREEDING RABBITS.

CHARGE AGAINST LANDHOLDERS. STOCK ALLOWED TO STARVE. The extraordinary statement that *°uie l andholders in the Tam worth (N.S.AV.) district are actually permitting rabbits to breed ou their properties was made by Air A. E. Bell, an inspector to the Taniworth Pastures Protection Board. Reports of rabbit inspectors to the board showed that rabbits are becoming scarce in the: district, because of the success of trappers, who had been encouraged by. the high price of skins. Some landholders, however, were preserving rabbits against extinction. Air Bell said it was remarkable that some people loved to keep a few burrows and rabbits in one paddock to breed up. Another type jealously guarded the rabbits until the winter lor the sake of the new skins and car<ases, and allowed stock to starve. A complaint' that one landholder would not allow trapping on his countrv had been referred to the inspector for investigation. Air Bell said it was true. The man was keeping his rabbits for himself.
