(From Our Own Correspondent.) 1 COLYTON, July 23. Airs 11. E. Iloekcn was hostess at a very enjoyable gift afternoon given at her home, “Grassmcre,” on Tuesday, in honour of Aliss Rita Linklater, whose marriage takes place early next month. The spacious drawing-room was decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and smaller bowls of violets and maidenhair fern, primulas and winter roses. A cheery log fire added to tho comfort, dispelling the chill of the winter day. Mrs Ilocken received her guests wearing a becoming gown of black brocaded silk, while Aliss Ilocken chose a navy and white ensemble finished with scarlet. The guest of honour, who wore a smart suit of fawn tweed, with accessories to tone, was I lie recipient of a beautiful liouquet of violets and maidenhair fern, presented to her by little Barbara Simpson, Airs Hookcn's granddaughter. The afternoon passed pleasantly, and a number of interesting competitions, appropriate to (lie occasion, were enjoyable interludes. The winners of the competitions were Mosdamo.? AV. Bussell and O. Laughton and Aliss Jean Burr. Afternoon tea having been served. Airs ITcckcn asked Aliss Linklatcr’s acceptances of tho many beautiful gifts, and, on behalf of her friends, voiced wishes for her future happiness. Aliss Linklater expressed her appreciation of the many kind wishes and presents, and also thanked Airs Ilocken and her daughters, All's A. O. Simpson, and Aliss 11.
