THE Y.W.C.A

ANOTHER CIVIC ACHIEVEMENT. The Young Women’s Christian Association has for many years occupied a recognised and honoured place in the community. It performs year in and year out a social service of a very valuable kind, and it, carries on its work efficiently and quietly under the stimulus of a judicious guidance and an enthusiasm which never wanes. Only those who are conversant with the inner working of the association and the nature of its operations are in a position to appreciate fully the extent of the services which it renders to this city through its many and varied activities and avenues. Tt develops appreciation between all ages, all creeds, all temperaments and all classes; it links all nationalties in a world-wide Christian fellowship. Owing to the increase in the club life of the Palmerston North association, it was deemed necessary to seek larger premises. -After much searchincr, a suitable suite of rooms was found in the Manawatu Buildings on the corner of George and Cuba Streets. Palmerstonians are rightfully proud of their civic gardens and recreational reserves and can feel equallv proud to have 6uch rooms and facilities as thev now have in the organisation of the Y.W.C.A.

The rooms face Cuba Street and get their full share of sun and fresh air. The spacious assemble room, with sloping floor and well-lighted stage, will he a iov to many drama lovers’ hearts, and the excellent dancing floor will not escape the praise and appreciation of those who keep their figures through the help of such physical activity ns dancing and calisthenics. Comfortable committee rooms or club rooms will also be a boon to the educational clubs conducted by tins organisation. A lounge attractively furnished with comfortable chairs, bright cushions, rich curtains, writing desk, hooks and magazines, bowls of flowers all help to give this lounge an air of comfort and dignity befitting its many uses. All the rooms have excellent heating apparatus which will be greatly appreciated by those who believe in using their leisure hours to develop their minds or train their hands, or to find out what the joys of friendship really mean. These rooms will be officially opened on July 30, at 2.45 p.m. Members and friends are invited to attend, and to inspect these new rooms which are the first step towards the dream of the board of directors to provide adequate rooms of the club and hostel nature. This plunge into such superior rooms has been taken confidently, knowing that it will not only lienefit the work of the clubs within the scope of the YAV.C.A., but will be appreciated by the many societies who rent these rooms. Secretaries of all societies are invited to inspect these premises at any time.
