LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

Business in Australian industrial and trading issues dominated the markets last week. A substantial turnover was recorded, and Australian Glass and Broken Hill Proprietary touched record high levels. The former went to 96s 6d. but eased later to 945, Broken Hill Proprietary sold to 76s 9d, the market easing Is at the week-end. The raising of the dividend to 10 per cent, sent Electrolytic Zincs up to 44s for the preference and 42s fid for the ordinaries. The market was disappointed in G. J. Coles, which although actively traded weakened from (he high level of Ihe previous week. Dunlop-Perdriaus showed fractional changes. Mori's Dock were firm and well traded. New Zealand Drugs developed weakness, and sold at from 78s 9d to 77s 3d. A feature of the week’s trading was a sharp finning in Mount Lyeli. which moved ui> from 24s 3d to 27s 4d. a gain of 3s Id, doubtless due to the improved market for copper. The Sydney Wool worths were actively traded, but cased during the week. Mount Morgan shares weakened from 15s fid fo 14s 10d. Bank shares were a dull market. particularly New Zealand, which weakened to business at 40s, compared with 51s 9d a year ago. Commercial of Australia fell away from 18s lod to 18s 4d and 18s 6d. and E.S, and A Bank sold down to £6 3s and £6 2s. National of New Zealand were weak on a sale at 665, as against 70s a year ago. Other banks showed little change. Pastoral and financial issues were quiet and Goldsbrough Mort eased from 31s Id to 30s 7d. Insurance issues were sparingly dealt in. Breweries were generally firm. Government loans were quiet, and little changed.
