LONG BUKIN.

(Front Our Own Correspondent.) LONG BURN, July 17. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre tournament held on Wednesday evening. 'the proceeds were in aid of the school funds. The winners of the prizes were as follow:—Ladies, Airs Holland; men, Air Holland. Supper was served by members of the committee. Airs Alabey is at present paying a short visit to Wellington. Alls V. Screech,, of New Plymouth, is spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Airs'F. S. Birch. Aliss Jeffs, of Rongotca, is' spending a holiday as the. guest of Mrs G. Syvcrscn. Air N. McClelland is spending a few days with .friends ill Alastcrton.

This afternoon, the Scripture class at the school held a small function at which the children- took the opportunity of saying good-bye to their teacher, Rev, F. O. Ball, who is shortly leaving the district. There were also present a number of parents and representatives of the School Committee. Messrs Callesen (chairman of tlie School Ccmmitlco), Searlc (headmaster), and C. C. Hills (a former headmaster) all spoke in glowing terms of the good work - done by Mr Ball during the time lie had been in charge of the Scripture class. Mention was made cf Mr. Ball’s approaching marriage, and all wished him much happiness in his future life. Two of the ' pupils, Ruth Rowland and Owen Mitchell, presented Mr. Ball will] a ease of silver coffee spoons as a parting gift. Mr Ball thanked the children very sincerely for their beautifu! gift and the speakers for their kind remarks. He.said how enjoyable the lessons had always been and how' interested t.he children had been in them.. Ho also thanked the headmaster and staff for their hearty co-operation, which greatly added to the enjoyment and success of tiic movement. Afternoon ,tea was served.
