A surprise party arranged by the members ot the Rongotca Methodist Bible class visited the home of Air and Alrs J. T. Gloyn, on Jones’s Line. The occasion was the eoming-of-age of their only son John. The evening was spent in games and competitions, the programme being in the hands of Alias 13. Harris and Mr It. Gloyn. At a suitablo juncture Mr A. 3. Pedley presented Air Joint Gloyn with a golden key and Aliss Harris asked Mr Gloyn to "accept a handsome ornamental clock on behalf of the members cf the Bible Class. Air Gloyn suitably responded. Following this supper was served and the guest of the evening cut the beautiful cake which was adorned with 21 candles. The cake was made and iced by Aliss Phyllis Gloyn. The evening closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Sync.” Among those present were Misses S. and M. Hunt. J. Foster, D. Kempton, Esnre and Ethna Hill, M. Huddleston, J., E. and P. Gloyn, E. Harris, AI. Eyfe. L. Pedley, AI. Pearson, Messrs A. S. Pedley, AI. Huddleston, J. Sherlock, R. and \V. Gloyn, J. Gloyn, R. Foster, T. Foster, R. Long, W. Johnston, and G. Pearson. The report presented at the monthly meeting of tlie directors of tiic Rongotca Dairy Company stated “that the increased tonnage for the year amount, to 95 tons, the total make of butter being 1064 tons. T he recently announced premium on grade in connection with the fixed prices ol next season will be beneficial to the suppliers to the company as the average grade for the season is expected to he round about 94. j points. To obtain the highest premium on grading [joints the quality of the cream will bo the deciding factor, and this is where a large measure of responsibility, will rest with the farmer.” The company lias a competent staff as demonstrated by the successes gained .for butter at the recent shows, and they were congratulated by the directors on the quality of the manufacture. The stall of the factory arc very busy, so as to he ready for the new .season, "and judging by the number of calves, being collected it appears as if it will not be long before the cream lorries will he out every day. The zoning of supply is still under' consideration and further meeting as between the companies interested and the Executive Commission are to ho field in the near future. , A lantern lecture on missionary work in the Solomon Islands was delivered at Rongotca last, evening by Rev. A. H. Scrivin, secretary of the foreign mission department of the Afelhcdist Church. Rev. fl. E. Fordycc presided and in his opening remarks welcomed the visitor and also expressed the hope that contributions to the foreign mission fund for the current year from this circuit would reach a total" of £SO. Mr Semin’s address was listened to with interest, and at the 'conclusion lie was accorded a hearty vote of thanks;
The Rongotca School Rugby (earn met Kopanc on the local ground this afternoon and beat them by 14 points lo nil. For the home side \Y. Mo-sop scored three tries and L. Rowe one, which Slattery converted. The following Rongotca hoys played well: —Parker, Hall, Burgess and \Y. Afossop in the forwards; Slattery, J. Alossop, and Rowe in the backs. Air ft. Gloyn refereed.
T'lio schoolgirl*' basketball team journeyed to Kopanc, anti after a fast game the score was Kopanc 14, Rongotca 14. A football match, “married men versus single,” is being arranged to take place at Rongotca next week. Keen interest has been aroused in the proposed game.
