(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON. July 18. The annual ball of the Milson School children was held in the hall last evening, there being a large attendance of children and parents for the occasion. The hall presented a pretty spectacle with tiie children in fancy dress. Air Murphy (chairman of the School Committee) apologised for the absence of Colonel J. H. Whyte, who had been invited to perform the opening ceremony, but owing to a prior engagement was unable to attend. Mr Murphy thanked the parents for presenting the children in fancy dress; the teachers for training the children in the various dances, and also all who had assisted in the preparation for the ball and declared the iunetion open, the children then presenting a programme of dances under the direction of Air AlcEwen (headmaster), assisted by the teachers—-. Miss Ashby and Mrs Martin. In the grand march the children presented a very pretty spectacle. The programme was submitted as follows: —“Polka,” “Will You Please Be My Partner?” “Butterfly Dance,” “Lubin Loo.” “Peaseods,’ “Pop Goes the Weasel,” “Black Nag,” “Little Playmate,” “.Mountain March,” “Shoemaker Dance,” “Upon a Summer's Day,” "Pigeon House,” “Ribbon Dance,” “Bridge of Avignon,” “Sweet Kate.” “Scllingcrs Round.” “Duke of York” “Tasmanian Waltz,’ “Captain Jinks.” The display given by the children was of a very high standard and reflected credit on the teachers in the training of the children for their various parts. Airs Murphy wus the accompanist for the dances, assisted by members of a professional orchestra, .Mr McEwen thanked the parents for dressing the children, also the teachers, A Iks Ashby and AJrs Martin, for their assistance in training the children, and Mrs Murphy for supplying music for the dances. Supper was then served to the adults and children, after which the floor was cleared, for dancing, music being supplied by a professional orchestra, Air Aiurphy being AI.C. ■ Opportunity was taken during the evening to decide the winner of be school radio competition, the successful one being Mrs H. R. Green, of Kairanga. Mr Eaton, of the School Committee, stated that the financial result .was, very satisfactory aboiit £lB being raised which would enable them to. obtain a radio for the school. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Air A. Hill and Aim' C. Ferguson.
