A DRAWN GAME.

OLD BOYS AND .MASSEY COLLEGE Forward play predominated in the contest on the oval between Old Boys and Massey College and in this department the Honours went to the students, who won the majority of the scrums and successfully prevented the Old Boys backs from getting into their stride. Massey College bad much the better of tiie first half, while Old Boys put more vim into tlieir play in the second spell and probably had a territorial advantage. A draw was a fair result of the day’s play. The following were the teams: Old Boys.—Betteridge, Bradley, Moffatt, Thompson, Olliver, * Plank, Irvine, Thomas, O’Dea, Henry, Powell, Kingsbeer, Lovelock, Louisson, Lewin.

Massey College.—Campbell, Early, Ball, Orgias, Sherratt/' Wishart, Blytli, Sutton, Itees, Hart', Irving, Barker, Green, Lyall, Gilray. The ojiening play hovered in midfield,' with the advantage, if any, to Massey College. Blytli, the College half, started a pretty movement, the ball travelling from Wishart to Sherratt and on to Ball, who threw a forward pass. Campbell made a good but unsuccessful attempt at goal from a penalty, , the ball falling short, and Betteridge found the line at half-way. Betteridge Had a' fairly easy penalty kick, but the ball did not rise sufficiently and fell under the bar. Orgias made aigood run and passed to Ball, who lost possession in a melee. Olliver penetrated the defence and passed to Moffatt, wlp did not go far Old Boys had the nines penned up for a time, but eventually Campbell .got possession,, and with a fine line Lick brought' relief. Orgias sailed away down" the line and ran up to Bctteridge, who bumped him into touch. College were getting the ball in the scrums, and Blytli was sending out good passes, but the students’ backs were not working well together. An infringement in Old Boys’ territory brought relief. Bradley made one or two efforts to break through but sound tackling brought him down. Betteridge drew applause with a hue kick from half-way that just bounced out at the corner flag, and from the line-out the hall went to Campbell, who replied with another great kick to touch beyond half-way. Half-time sounded with no score. On the resumption, Henry figured in a solo forward rush that took the hall over the students’ line, but he was beaten for the hall. Old Boys essayed several passing rushes, but the College forwards, beaded by Sutton, were keeping well up to fhe ball and Irustvated the efforts. The Old Boys’ forwards went through with dash and ail infringement by Massey College - gave Betteridge a chance from a penalty kick and he accepted it, putting Old Boys three points up. Irvine was prominent in a fine forward rush for College anti lie took the ball at his feet into black territory, where, after a hectic spell of plav. Betteridge relieved the pressure.. Irvine later got Old Boys out of more trouble, and, coming again, Campbell had an unsuccessful

drop-kick for College. Rees, Sutton and Irvine swooped down on Old Bays line, and a race for the touch-down between Betteridge and Rees ended in favour of the Old Boys’ custodian. Massey College spoiled a golden chance with an infringement. They returned. to the attack, where Betteridge s safe boot again brought relief. Campbell had a fruitless shot at a penalty m a fairly easy position, and Ball a few minutes later tried to kick a field goal but the ball went well outside. Bradley. dashed down the line, gaining a lot of ground, but he was pushed out. Olliver, supported by Thompson and Moffatt, continued the attack, but just when a try looked probable Olliver threw the hall wildly and the students full-back 6ent it safely into touch. A few moments later Betteridge . retired suffering from a kick on the head, and Stuckey, the junior full-back came on. Bradley and Moffatt broke av r ay again in a passing bout, but the defence held. Kingsbeer spoiled a good piece of work by over-kicking, the hall going into touch-in-goal. Just on time, Massey College, with all their forwards in action, took the ball to the Old Boys’ quarters, where Blyth and Wishart exchanged passes, the latter going over amid great excitement Early’s kick missed. Ball was injured and went off. There was, no further score and the game ended: Old Boys 3, Massey College 3. Mr A. Weston was the referee.
