Found guilty after his trial on a charge of attempted false pretences by endeavouring to have a cheque cashed at a bank where lie had_ no account, John Joseph Francis Kennedy, 21, a labourer, was admitted to two years’ probation by Mr Justice Ostler to-day. • Percy Preston Pierce, a married man, a labourer, charged alternatively with indecent and common assault on a domestic servant employed by him, pleaded guilty to the minor count and v.as admitted to probation for a year. Both accused were ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. A FALSE TELEGRAM. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 15. In the Supreme Court W illiam Jack Waddell 29, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment on a charge or sending a false telegram.
