(From Our Own Correspondent^ FOX’! ON, July 14. The monthly meeting of the .borough Council was hold last evening, usd was piesided over by the Mayor (Mr M. b. Pcneau). The Petone borough Council wrote asking the council for its support in connection with the following resolutiui“That the incidence of the costs of hospital board administration should be reviewed as an urgent matter in the direction of relieving ratepayers from portion or the whole of the burden arising from such costs and that the Municipal Association be urged to make representations on this subject to the Government r A fiteed to. The Minister o! a Comal Affairs (Hon. \V. E. Parry) wrote in reference to Arbor bav, asking the council’s co-operation ,m celebrating- this event.—Agreed to. The Palmerston North Free Ambulance wrote enclos ng u copy of a letter received from the WeHiii'Hou Free Ambulance relative to tlie service as c-onducted .in that city and asking the council for assistance m the matter ot having the Palmersto. North Hospital ambulance taken over by Palmerston North Free Ambulance Received. The Kairanga County &nmUl wrote enclosing a cheque for £49 2s . 1 icing the Borough Council s share of the heavy traffic fees collected for the quarter < tided May 31. 1936.-Rece.ved. M*s 1. Baker, librarian, wrote m connection with salary matters. It was decided offer the librarian a commission of It) per cent on all new subscribers and to make m effort to secure new subscribers. 4« e poundkeeper reported that dunng tlie month six head of stock had been impounded and driving fees to tlie amouit of 5s collected. The waterworks foreman reported that the waterworks gang had been enlaced in constructing a footpath m Avenue Rond. At the statu n 2,400,00° gallons of water had been punqicd. The gas manager pointed out a serious position a the gasworks. The bed of retorts had been a source of anxiety dunng the month and had required a good deal ot patching, while the fmnaco was also becoming very shaky.-The report was adopted. The amount of gas manufactured during June was 291,000 feet. The road-
foreman reported that drains had been cleaned in the borough and roads gradod md streets patched during the past month. Noxious weeds had also been attended to. The bitumen surfaces would bo patched as chips came to hand, and it was recommended that a drain bo laid in Avenue Road to take away storm water —Adopted. Accounts amounting to £2839 9s Oil were passed for paymmt. Mr Bernie Gardes, ono of the first pupils of St. Mary’s Convent, Foxton, journeyed from Auckland to participate in the Jubilee gathering last week, and was warmly welcomed. He spoke appreciatively of the training ho had received at the school prior to -attinding the Marist School in Auckland, and said the grounding he had received locally had been to his advantage when entering the larger school. In thanking the i 'uns ho wished the school every prosperity in the future.
