INCOMES IN BRITAIN.
CHANGE SINCE 1921. Since 1921 higher incomes in the United Kingdom have fallen steadily and lower ones have risen, according to a statement made by Sir Josiah Stamp at a meeting of the Royal Statistical Society recently. "Taking all the people with incomes over £SOOO, the percentage with incomes exceeding £IOO,OOO was highest when the price level was highest, and the percentage with incomes between £SOOO and £IO,OOO was lowest,” said Sir Josiah Stamp. “The highest incomes change in a rough general correspondence with changes in the price level. In the ‘over-£lo,ooo’ class a marked change in the aggregate has been usually accompanied by a change in the opposite direction for the average income of the class. But the opposite is that with the average of all incomes over £IO,OOO. AVhehever the price level is at its highest the higher income gains on the lower in proportion, and when it is low the position s reversed.
