TERRACE END

PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Terrace End Progressive Association was held last evening, Mr E. J. Oakley presiding. Others present were Messrs H. E. Townshend, R. A. Holmes, H. Snell, G. Mills, D. Roots and J. H. Nash.

Advice was received from the City Council under date of May 6 that the association’s suggestion that one of the buses leaving Terrace End early on Sunday afternoons should proceed to town via the Hospital had been left in the hands of the traffic manager with authority to make such an arrangement if it was considered advisable. —The chairman commented that he understood the bus was now running as requested. Formal notification was received from the City Council, under date of June 4, that for a trial period of one month the buses would leave the depot in the Square a.t 10.15 p.m. and again at 10.1)5 p.m. The council hoped to bo able to maintain both trips, which were being run particularly to meet the wishes of residents attending the evening picture session. The West End Progressive Association wrote suggesting that, if it viewed the proposal favourably, tho Terrace End Association might support the request to the City Council ior a conference io bo held between all interested Ixidies on the ambulance question. —The chairman said he did not think the association should take up sides and the association had consequently done nothing in the matter. Following upon the suggestion made that Main Street East bo_ made a one-way traffic street on either side, the association was informed bv letter that tho City Council had considered the matter and decided that the time was not really opportune, as such a proposal, if adopted, would necessitate the frequent crossing of the railway line. —The letter was formally ieoeived, it being stated that it had not been intended that one-way traffic should be- compulsory, though it was very desirable for through traffic.
