MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
RESIGNATION FROAI ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, Air A. J. Graham presiding. Also present were Aiessrs D. Black, J. H. Stevens, A. P. Stuart, F. G. Opie, K. A. Henderson, H. B. Free, F. Cousins, H. E. 'townshend and T. L. beator. There were apologies for absence from Aiessrs AI. N. AN allace, Al. H. Oram, R. L. C. Aitehison, J- F. Carter, H. L. Cunninghame and J. Selwyn. Advising that the chamber's resignation (decided upon at the last meeting) had been accepted, the Associated Chambers stated ; In the matter of affiliation fees, surprise was expressed at.your statement that you admit no liability for tees to the.association, both current and arrears. )ou state that you have given us previous advice that you admit no liability, but wo have no record of this. Even if you have so advised us, your chamber has not resigned until now, and this docs not override the rules of the association, which state (rule 88): “Any chamber resigning or being expelled from membership during any financial year shall remain liable for its subscription for that financial year.” In addition, rule 90 states: “. . . No resignation shall take effect on any earlier date than the day on which it is delivered to the secretary.” Your chamber must be aware that you are fully liable for the fees both current and arrears, which have teen debited against you, namely, £10: 17s. (We continue to hold in suspense your cheque ior £lO, forwarded under date of Alay. 12.) A our chamber has ior a long time had the benefit of membership with tho association and the fees are required to be. paid. "j l , regard to the fees owing, by your letter of May 12 you amend our account on the basis of 'a lower membership lor 1933-34 and 1034-35. This is a very belated amendment, as your chamber did not dispute our account at the time, but the executive is prepared to consider amendments on tho basis of actual financial members of your chamber during the years 1933-34, 1934-do, and 1935-3 G, when we received advice from your chamber as to what it proposes to do in the matter of payment of flic fees for which it is liable. ALr Graham commented that the chamber had always contended that the fees were too heavy and had paid under protest. Actually about lo per cent of the fees received had been paid in. ' It could be said that there was a moral, though not legal, liability. The letter was received. GENERAL.
On the suggestion of Air Cousins, it was decided that the chairman ascertain whether it would be possible lor Ministers of tho Crown to attend the annual dinner of the chamber. In response to a letter from the chamber urging that the air-mail seivice to Dunedin be given a further trial before being discontinued, the Postal Department advised that it had been decided to continue the trial until September. , . Air Black (Chief Postmaster), in reply to a question, stated that the position was about stable; the department were actually losing money on the contract at present. Alescsrs Henderson and Opie were appointed to represent the chamber at a meeting to form a controlling executive for the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs in the Alanawatu.
