le , anmia J meeting of St. David’s Church Ladies’ Guild took place on l iday, when there was a good attendance of,members. Rev. J. S. Fate presiding, 'i'he meeting opened with a. hymn followed by the "guild prayer. An apology for absence was received from Airs Krogli, and correspondence from Mesdamos Newlands, Lovediay and AlcNcile in reply to letters of sympathy wars read. Alcsdames Newlands and Glendinnmg were appointed sick visitors for the month. An invitation from St. Andrew’s" Guild to all members to be present at a. social afternoon to be held in the new hall was received. Hn joy able items were presented as follows: Pianoforte solos, Mrs J. Crooks; vocal items, Mrs F. AlcLachlan. An amusing competition followed, tho winner being Miss M. Day. Prior io the business part of the programme, tho president (Mrs Stewart,) conveyed to Mrs F. McLachlan, the. retiring secretary, her sincere regrets that she had to relinquish her post P.nd thanked her on behalf of the guild for her sp'endid work. Airs Pate also spoke in appreciation of Airs AJcLachlan’s cervices, and on behalf of tii-o guild presented her with a bouquet, Airs Stewart (the president) was also extended sincere appreciation for her work during the past year and she, too, was presented with a charming bouquet. Afternoon tea was served.
The report tor the past year was rend ns follows: “The 1935-3(5 ->-»ir of the guild hnis drawn to a very successful close, both socially and financially. All tlw meetings have been well attended and marked by a happv spirit which has been enjoyed by all members. W e are particularly fortunate at St. David’s in the high standard of programmes presented each- afternoon, and our grateful thanks are due to the hostesses who have been responsible and to tjie performers for their help. An innovation this year is the visiting of sick and elderly members of the congregation, and those ladies who have volunteered have found their visits much appreciated. Ln Smtember, 1935, members of St. Andrew's Ladies’ (Jnild paid their usual visit to our guild and this gathering was a great success. In the same month a new urn and teaspoons were purchased for use at the gni'dr 10s was also donated to the relief depot. In November. 1935. a bring and buy stall wan held at the usual monthly social and the sum of £1 5s resulted. In February. 193(1, a social evening was held, for husbands and sons of members of the guild, and the large number present spent a most enjoyable evening. At a committee meeting held at the home of the prei ident (Airs A. Stewart). on June 24, it was decided to donate £6 towards the cost of the new gas heaters in the church, also to purchase new blinds for the manse and paper one of the rooms at the manse. It was also decided to buy new curtains and ta.b'e /-overs to be used in the guild room. The grateful thanks of the committee are due to all who have co-operntrd to make the afternoons so successful, to the Press for -publicity, and to Mr 1). Glendinning for auditling our hooks.” The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as fellows: —Pre'siclent, Mrs A. Stewart; vice-presi-dents, Airs Glendinning. All's Gilchrist. Airs Aloffntt and Airs Pate; secretary and treasurer, Airs C. Anj derson; executive committee, Ates-'d-mes AlcNeile, Townshend, Hopkirk, Aitkinson,' Lucas, Crocks and Ashbv; auditor. Air D. Glendinning. At the clo: e of the meeting Air Pate announced that there would be a congregational meeting at- the end of the month. The meeting closed with the Benediction, pronounced by Air Pate.
