HIGH EXCHANGE.

TO BE DEALT WITH. GOVERNMENT’S PLANS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. July 4. In an interview to-day, the Prime Minister (lit. Hon. M. J. Savage) said that the high exchange rate would be dealt with. He pointed out that the Government’s plans were to provide a stable foundation for the standard of living of New Zealanders and there could be no stable foundation other than that based on what the country produced. The exchange rate would not be dealt with until the Government were in a position to provide an alternative, and that was guaranteed prices for all forms of exported products. That was not a thing that could be done overnight. Mr Savage also said to-day that it was not the intention of the Government to attempt to take undue advantage of any section of the British people He said that was suroly borne out by their intention to send the Minister of Finance to Britain for the purposo of increasing trading and other relationships with the Mother Country.
