(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, July 6. A party of 40 euchre players journeyed freut AVlinkaringo to play tor the Walker Shield. Whakarongo proved the winners by 11 games. A dance followed, music being supplied by Mrs Shaw and Miss U. Powell. During an interval Mr Hansen presented Mr- Gore with the shield ii id congratulated him on his team’s victory. Mr Gore thanked the Newbury players for the splendid welcome they had given them and the friendly spirit :n which the games had been played. The euchre , and dance <i aid of the hall funds was held on Friday evening and was again well attended. The prizewinners were as follow: Ladies, Mrs E. Shaw 1, Mrs G. Sauce 2.: men, Mr S. Knight 1 Mr Trask 2. .•; iced cake was won by Mr G. AVild, :t had been donated by Mrs M. Penberthy. Dancing was kept goim> until midnight to music supplied by Messrs Ward, P. Collins .r d R. Wood. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr G. Sanne. The hosts and hostesses were Messrs R. Purtou; G. Sanne and S. Morris and Mesdamcs R. l’urton, G. Same, s»:d S. Knight. Owing to the illness of Mrs Maiden, the head-teacher at the school, Mrs Ellis, head relieving teacher, is in charge for three weeks. Mrs Maiden’s many friends and the children wish her n speedy recovery to good .health. Mr G. S:»me has returned homo after spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs E. Collins, junr , are at present away on holiday in the Aucklmd district. Messrs Hector and Dick Barron, of Hawcra, are at present the guests of Mr and Mrs A. K. Simpson and will later leave for Wellington to visit their father, Dr Barron. Mrs S. Palmer, cf Wellington, is also the guest of Mr
