WELFARE OF FARMING
STATIC OF ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 1. 'Disappointment at the status of the Royal Agricultural Society in the_ Dominion was expressed -by the president (Air L. J. Wild, of Feilding), at the annual meeting to-day. He suggested tlmt steps .he taken to co-ordinate within the society’s active membership both scientific and lay opinion so that the society could become a power in so far as agricultural advancement was concerned. “The opinion of the Farmers’ Union seems to carry more weight with the Government than the Royal Agricultural Society,” said Mr Mild. “There is no corporate hotly tnat maims to represent both scientific and lay opinion on matters relating to agricultural welfare, and this society should be that Body.” Dr C. S. M. Hopkirk, secretary of the Veterinary AssociaCon, said there was a feeling tout there should he some parent body with very wide powers. Two bodies that might take on the responsibility were the Royal Society and the Royal Agricultural .Society. He thought the latter society should call a conference of Bodies concerned. Mr Wild was re-elected president.
