(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIC ARAKURA, Jmo 13 The dune meeting of the Tc Arakura Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afterncuL Mrs Griffith presided and extended a hearty welcome to the large attendance of members and visitors. The thought for the day was: “The talent of success is nothing more Ilian dong what you can do well, and doing well whatever you do.” Apologies for absence were received from Miss J>ewar and Mesdames ; Kendrick rnd Danielson. The president extended thanks to the Drama Ciicle, door attendants, the M.C., the lad cs for mak-, 1 ing and icing the birthday cake, etc., iiid all who had helped in any way in making the birthday celebrations a groat success. • Miss J. Buiyiham was mrollecl and wcl'Coined as n member of the institute. !At the conclusion of the business, a lcc- { turc was given by Air J. 11. Stevens, of Palnierst n North, on native trees, etc. Mr Stevens brought with him a rare colJ lection of curios which were very closely ; observed by all, • especially the school chilI dren who had been invited by the inI stitutc to hear the* lecture. Mr Stevens j expressed his appreciation of addressing I the scholars and the ladies. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Stevens. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Russell, Chectham. Ansin. Wallace, Rick and Swainson. The monthly competit on for the best collection of. native leaves was well contested and the wi’i era wore Mrs Tait 1, Mrs Baxter 2, and Airs Duric 3. The winners in the flower competition were: Marigolds. Airs Ta t 1; violets, Airs Baxter 1. Thanks were extended to the hostesses and Mr Stevens for judging the competitions, also the stewards for the very enjoyable afternoon. The demonstration for the July meeting will bo on dressmaking and the monthly competition will Itc for the best sausage rolls, and the best bloom in the garclm will be the entry for the flower compettion. The Tc Arakura Social Study Circle held another of their meetings in the hall on Wednesday evening.* Air J. Whittle was in tho chair, and expressed appreciation at seeing such a large aucUmce present. He later introduced Air A. J. Kellow and Air A. F. Dodson, who spoke on the Oxford Group Alovcment. At the conclusion of the lecture a number of questions were asked and suitably replied to by the sneak pis. On the motion of Air Wilkin® and Mr Burnham, a vote of thanks was accorded Air Kellow and Air Dodson. Although wintry conditions prevailed out«:de, the supper room was made a* cosy and comfortably as possible with a bright log fire, and the recently hung curtains have greatly helped in keeping out draughts.
