His Majesty King Edward VTIT today attained hvs 42nd birthday—lie was horn at White Lodge, Richmond, on June 23, 1894. To-day is the first observance of King Edward’s birthday since his accession to the Throne.
Professor G. S. Peren, principal of Massey Agricultural College, is visiting the South Island.
Mr C. Tv. Winther Pedersen, who has been visiting Palmerston North, has returned to Levin.
Mr Walter John Elliott, formerly chief inspector of secondary education in New South Wales, has died at Strallifield. aged 69. He was the father of Mr J. It. Elliott, lecturer in classics a.t Victoria University College, Wellington. The Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, is to visit Levin to-morrow. In the. morning he will inspect the Levin District High School and various sites proposed for a. new secondary school. Later, he will meet a deputation in regard to other school matters. In the afternoon he will visit the Boys’ Training Farm at Weraroa. Knowing of his projected trip to the Homeland, the University of Edinburgh has appointed Dr. John Dickie, ex-moderator of the General Assembly of New Zealand, to the Gunning .Jubilee Memorial I/eetureship in Theology in succession to Dr. John Bailev formerly of New York, who is now professor of divinity at Edinburgh University.
