FASHIONS AT ASCOT
A BRILLIANT GATHERING. THE PRINT DRESS VOGUE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright.) Received June 18. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, June 17. The Sun-Herald- says that though the King was not present the Ascot race meeting was in every other respect Royal and the crowds were very smartly dressed. THs most striking of the women’s fashions was a lint a foot high, shaped like a flower-pot, with a curly brim. Others had . enormous transparent brims, but bonnets were the hottest favourites, including Flemish, Dutch and baby bonnets worn w r ell back on the head.
There was a tremendous vogue for print dresses. Dozens of coloured ducks flaunted themselves on one straightprinted dress ; another had the owner’s signature scribbled over it; and a third was covered with rural sketches. THE HUNT CUP. The totalisator pool on the Royal Hunt Cup amounted to £40,292 10s, which constitutes a record for any singlo race. The totalisator takings for the day also established a record with the figure of £131,955.
