HIGHWAY TRAGEDY.

YOUNG WOMAN KILLED. SISTER GRAVELY INJURED. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, June 18. One woman was killed and another seriously injured in a collision on tlie Main South Road near Winslow, last evening. The victim was Miss Mary Emily Lowe, aged 27, a daughter of Mr and Mrs W. T. Lowe, of Hinds. Tlie injured woman is Mrs G. H. Farrell, of Hinds, a sister of Miss Lowe ; she has a fractured skull and is in hospital in a serious condition. The car was driven by their brother Thomas Peter Lowe, and it contained also their father and mother and Miss Watson, of Hinds. It collided with a car driven by Mr Delacy Cameron, a commercial ■ traveller. Mr Cameron’s car was first deflected from its course by a slight collision with a third car driven by Mr William H. SimmondS, of Lowcliffe. Mr Lowe was travelling behind the latter. The whole side of Mr Lowe’s car was stripped off and it is thought that Miss Lowe was killed instantly.
