HOCKEY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WOOPVILLE. .Tire 15. The team to play. Palmerston North at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday afternoon is as follows: —K. Strand, o. Worboys, Boustoad, J. Beale, E. McNeil, O. Leach, A. and B. Walker, E. Stitt, 11. Ward, L. Fann : n. The match was to have bem played last Wednesday, but was postponed on account of rain. ANGLICAN SOCIAL. A successful and enjoyable social afterncx.i was held by the members of the Angpean Ladies Guild on Friday afternoon. Songs were contributed by Mrs Hume, Miss Bailey, and Rev. J. 11. Boyd, and recitations by Miss B. Evans and Nola Oliver. Mr N. Bartle gave pianoforte solos, and accompaniments were played by Mrs R. R. Johnston. Mrs Mountfort and Mrs Seeker had charge of a “bring arid buy” stall and did brisk business. Competitions were won by Mesdames R. Lawrence, Boyd, G. - Hartridge, Ansin and Hickson. Members handed round after l noo'n tea and Rev. G. W. Davidson thanked all present for making the function such a success. OBITUARY.

The death occurred on Saturday of Mr George Reuben Hutching, of Dannevirke, in his 78th year. The deceased gentleman, who was born in England, came to New Zealand in 1873 in the sailing ship Helen Denny with his parents, Mr and Mrs Slephe Hutching, late of Woodviile. For many years, Mr George Hutching was farming in tho Woodviile district, occupying a section on Napier Road, while he later resided in Pongaroa for a number of years. Left to mourn their loss are his wife and a grown-up family. There are two s’sters in Palmerston North, one brother in Auckland and two brothers (Messrs A. Sr Hutching and A. F. Hutching), in Woodviile. PERSONAL. Mrs Draper, of Kelvin Grove, is on a visit to Woodviile. Mrs W. J. Wright has returned to Woodviile after a six weeks’ holiday spent at Wanganui and .Palmerston North. Mr G. Bruere had to enter the Di-imevirke Hospital on Saturday to undergo an operation. Mr M. Singers leaves to-morrow on a holiday visit to Orini, Waikato. Mr F. Marquand left Woodviile to-day to take over a position at Takapau.
