Instifulo was a.meet successful function, , there being a good attendance of dancers from all the surrounding districts. The ball was decorated with autumn foliage, berries, and large brightly shaded poppies. Alusic 'was supplied by a professional orchestra from Palmerston North, and a plentiful home-made snipper assisted much towards Ihe success nf (he evening. Extras wen played by Mrs B. A ‘ competition for a box of chocolates was won by Mr Thompson (Rangiwahia). Novelty dances were won by Miss M. Hooper and Mr T. Kearney (Lucky Gay Gordons), and Airs C. Stanley and Air E. Payton (AJontr Carlo). The lucky spot waltz went to Mrs E. Clifton and Mr L. E. Schmidt. Air IT. Wildborc presided at the first meeting of the newly elected School Committee, Messrs W. llogan (secretary), G. Watkins, A. Houseman, and J. 11. Cowan also being present. Mr 0. IT. Gubbins tendered his rcsignatiolf which was received with regret. Good wishes for his future, were extended to Mr Gubbins. Apiti School is now graded 3c. The newly appointed head teacher is Air A. W. Bird, of ICaiwarra. AJiss Osborne, the infant mistress, has been promoted to the position of 1A infant teacher. Aliss R. Spence lias been appointed second assistant teacher. Tho committee decided that coconut malting bo purchased for use in the infant room. A tennis net will be procured later. The committee decided to supply cocoa for the winter term for children lunching at school. At the invitation of tho committee, parents and .friends gathered at the school on Friday afternoon to farewell Air and Airs Gubbins. AJr H. Wildborc called on Rae Muir, one of the pupils, and this little girl in a brief speech bade farewell to Air and Airs Gubbins, and on behalf of the pupils presented Air Gubbins with two books. Airs Gubbins was banded a dainty pesy of autumn flowers by little Rona White. The chairman (Air Wildborc) referred to Air Gubbins as an excellent teacher, who at all times had the interests of the children at heart. Apiti school’s loss would be a gain for Gisborne and lie wished Air Gubbins, his wife and daughter every success 11 in the future and asked them to accept I from the residents of'the district a mounted ! wall barometer. Air Gubbins thanked the (I children for their gifts and said he re- j I gretted leaving his pupils, whom he consid- ! cred his friends. Ho did not want to lose | touch with them and hoped to hear from'l some of them in the future. In expressing I thanks for the barometer, the speaker said I that anything ho had done for tho chil- g dren had been done with the greatest j pleasure because he felt it was a teacher’s I divty to do all he could in llicir interest.
