(!' roni Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, May 14. Mr and Mrs W..Hobson, of Taumarunui, aro the gtitists of Mr and Mrs S. I. Walden, of Thyme Street. Constable R. 'Purvey is at present acting in a relieving capacity at Foxton. Mrs 11. M. Klein, of Lyndhurst Street, Palmerston North, is visit iig her brother, Mr S. E. Cowley. Sister E. M. Small, district nurse at Foxton, who has been act ; ng in a relieving capacity at Shannon, has received advice of her transfer to Levin. The offieal opening for visitors of the Foxton Golf Club’s new links was held yesterday afternoon. The opening cerenuny was performed by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Mixed foursomes were indulged in, as well as a putting competition which was won by Mrs M. E. Perreau. Afternom tea was served by tho ladies of the club. A four-ball competition wus won by Miss B. Speirs and Whyte (Buckley) and Miss Stern (Buckley) and J. Turner were the runners-up. Last evening the members of the Foxton Surf and Life-saving Club held their annual end of season dinner. Mr M. E.
Perreau presided. Several toasts were honoured. Mr A. Robbie (nstruetor) expressed his appreciation of the manner in which members had assisted him and explained tho method of selection /adopted by tho committee in awarding the mnual cup fo the most efficient and improved member. He then called on the president to present tho cup to Mr J. Barratt. Mr S. Austin explained that the dmor of tho cup desired to remain anonymous. As an expression of appreciation of the services of tho club in saving the lives of two of his children a year or so ago, lie had asked. tho speaker to act as trustee for a sum of £2OO which had been plaeod on deposit and the interest was to bo used each year in providing a cup for the most improved and efficient member of tho club.
There was a large attendi nee at the monthly social afternoon of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild. Mrs R. N. Speirs, assisted by Miss B. Speirs, carried out the duties of hostess. A competition originated by Miss B. Speir was won by Mrs F. Popple. Mrs J. C. Smith was tho winner of another competitim. Two pianoforte solos woro rendered by Miss F. Wright, of Timaru. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, at tho conclusion of which guild business was discussed. At the meeting of the Foxton Brownies cn Tuesday afternoon Mother’s Day was celebrated and mothers of the Brownies and committee members were entertained at a tea party. Last evening on two occasions the northc:«i portion of tho borough experienced failure of the power supply, duo to a faulty switch at a sub-station. Tho annual installation ceremony in connection with Lodge Te Awahou was held yesterday afternoon, when visitors were present from all over the district and Bro. R. Owen was installed ns Master for the ensuing year. In the evening a social and danco was held.
