FARMING NEWS.
RURAL RAKINGS. The production of wheat "'n Victoria last season amounted to 37.552,062 bushels, the average yioltl being 16.6 bushels per acre. The total exceeded that of the previous season by nearly 12,000,000 bushels. Rain fell in Hamilton on Monday and Tuesday, the total for 48 hours being .87in. The rain is much needed and will prove very beneficial to farmers, who have recently topdrcssed their pastures or sown new grass.
Replying to Air \V. J. Poison (Opposition, Stratford), the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. IV. Lee Martin, said in the House of Representatives, yesterday, that consideration had been given to the question of introducing a Stock Foods Bill, but in view of the programme of legislation the Government had in mind it was not likely such a measure would be proceodcd with this session.
The plight of Raglan County in regard to ragwort was quoted to a conference of ten local bodies from Wairoa to the East Coast, as a warning to farmers _ in Poverty Bay and neighbouring districts. The following resolution wos carried:— That legislation be provided this session so that the control of noxious weeds, particularly ragwort, be taken over by rabbit boards, and subsidised by the Government in a similar manner to rabbit boards.
