THE FREE AMBULANCE
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 22.
At a meting of the Foxton Borough Council, the Palmerston North Free Ambulance wrote asking for a donation towards its expenses. Cr F. Rob i son said that a lot of people were under the impression that the Palmerston North Hospital Board's ambulance was not free to ind'gent. cases, but this was so and this ambulance had never been refused any pel's. 1 t in such circumstances free of cost. The council had to pay rates to the Palmerston North Hospital Board and if a donation was made to the Free Ambulance it. was paying double for the .ambulance service.
Cr. D. I?. Barron cited a case of a person who, being i(table to pay for an ambulance, had called on the F'se Ambulance and who, after return from hospital, had rereived an account for £1 Is which was paid.
It was decided to advise the Free Ambulance that the council’s funds did not permit making any donation.
