AUSTRALIA’S TARIFF PLANS. RETALIATION PROPOSED. DIFFICULTY OVER WOOL. _ (United Press Association.-—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Times Cables.) Received April 21, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, April 20. The Times Tokio correspondent says that, holding that the Australian taroff proposals would destroy the Japanese trade in cotton piece goods and rayon, the Government is considering retaliatory measures. Australia supplies over 90 per cent, of Japan's raw wool. Methods of retaliation, without penalising the expanding woollen industry, 'are being sought, in connection with the Australian wool auctions, Japanese industrialists at present compete with each other, and the authorities are accordingly iii collaboration with the manufacturers in trying to devise plans to concentrate purchases in the hands of one buyer and thus eliminate competition as far as Japan’s heavy demands are concerned.
