Tripp, president of the 1 New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies’ j Association, presided. He said thera had not been time for remits or suggestions to societies, and suggested that after a discussion a committee should be set up to formulate a policy for further action to be submitted to all societies. There had been discussions on amalgamation, “ and it was hoped that some of the smaller societies would agree to it. He said he hoped the Government would see that fresh water research was carried on, and he asked for a fair share of the revenue from opossums, which only the societies ranged and protected. He also asked for the removal of the protection of stoats and weasels, but said he did not think it wise to entirely kill out hawks. The possibility-of breeding ducks should be explored. Mr Tripp concluded with an appeal for the planting of food trees for native birds. Pigs' and goats should be exterminated from island sanctuaries, but this course should be followed with red and fallow deer on Stewart Island.
