EAST COAST LINE.
WORK FOR 2000 MEN. Per Press Association GISBORNE, April 20. The opinion that from 1500 to 2000 men will be employed on the NapierWairoa section of the East Coast line, and that the completion of this section will be the first object of the Government, was expressed to-day by Mr D. W. Ooleman, M.P., who stated that, while he was not aware of the Minister’s intentions, the indications were that an early start would be made at the Napter end, and also with, the fabrication of the Mohaka viaduct. On the northern end, the completion of the tunnels was likely to be the first concern of the department, and when these were finished the men could be transferred irom. the Napier-Wairoa section, together with the plant and machinery.
