FROM TRACK AND STABLE.
NO MEETINGS NEXT SATURDAY. (By "Spectator.”) Owing to Anzae Day falling on Saturday (here will ho no racing this week apart from the second day of the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow. Galilee should win a middle distance event soon. She stayed the-Foley Memorial Handicap distance at Avondale in good style, and a repetition of that form will make her hard to beat. Velocipede was slow (o get moving in the early stages of tho Foley Memorial, but coming wide into the straight ho finished very' solidly in fifth position. Sinking Fund put up a very solid performance in heating- a strong field in the ■Foley Memorial. Ho was always among (.no loading division and when it looked ns though Galilee had the race safe ho went past her and soon settled the issue. Coming on top of his second to Royal Appellant in Iho Eantcr Handicap it is likely that the Acre gelding will go on to still better tilings. Contact created a vcrjK favourable impression when ho won tho hurdle race at Hastings. He took the obstacles smartly and showed a lot of speed on' the flat. On hi? Feilding running where he was second to Oncwhctu in the cup, Hunting Cat looked an early winner, and he duly won at Hastings on Saturday. Tie was never far from the front and running on better than the others he won decisively. Big Dook again ran a fine race, but Pladio appears to have gone off. Hunter’s Morn, who .hails from Gisborne, was left at the pest at the Hastings meeting a fortnight ago, but on Saturday, with B. 11. Morris up, lie got away well to win nicely. Tie is a four-ycar-old gelding by Hunting Song from Tino Atua and is a good galloper. Thangilambra scored her first win' when she led all the way in the Rcscbnnk Handicap at Avondale. She had previously been in places, but lacked the necessary finishing run. As she is improving slio may be one to remember. Prince Abb looks like having a winning turn in the north very soon. Tie was finishing on well at Avondale. While contesting the ltoscbank Handicap at Avondale Gemlaud fell and broke a leg and bad to be destroyed, lie had done nothing that could point to bis being a top-notcher. Swift Spear made a creditable showing fer a novice in the Avondale Hurdles and with experience should lake a lot. of beating in the class be will meet. Star Artist, had a number of successes to her credit last season, but lately she has been out of luck. She was in the running most of the way in tho Foley Memorial and she might win a race tip to a mile soon.
The Posterity—Eulogy filly owned by Mr G. M. Currie is to be placed in the charge of F. Davis at Woodville.
W. Raynor is expected to take in hand, shortly two yearling fillies from Koatauui. One of those is by Limond from_ Veil, therefore a sister to that good performer in Australia Vcilmond. The other is by Limond from Aspic, who produced |Aspian and Tout le (Monde. Rust lias been turned out and is likely to bo sent to the matrons’ paddock. She ran two fair seconds at Feilding, Limulus and Grateful beating her on each day respectively. Gay Rose finished faster than anything in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie andJ when she hit the front at the homo tunr m the Foley Memorial on Saturday she was expected to finish on, but site faded away and finished out of a place. Mr J. Lambess has in hand at Otaki a colt by Lackham—Royal Queen, a halfbrother to Golden Enterprise. The colt will race in the colours of Mr Tl. Harman, who will be best known as the owner of Gay Court. The two-year-old . Tractor—Sweet Sue youngster Sardius was among the nominations for juvenile events at the Dannevirke Racing Club’s annual meeting, which will be held at Woodville on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Word has been received from Woodville that Sardius has been sold and in consequence has been scratched for all events at the Dannevirke fixture. A. D. Webster will make another of his periodical visits to Australia next month. He will lake four horses with him, Four Roods, Realise, Pink Lady and Martinborough. The last-named is by Lord Qucx from Regiment and was sent to Victoria this season where ho won a race. Since his return ho has recorded a second and a third in four starts. Pink Lady is a rising two-ycar-old bay filly by Pink Coat from the Autumnus—Telescope mare Seaside. Tho identity of the other two is unavailable at present as their names have not been claimed. Entail has finished racing for this season and is to be given a spell of several weeks, states a report from Wanganui. W. Raynor lias bad to be very careful with the son of Posterity, as ho is a delicate sort and will not stand much racing. However, his owner, Mr G. M. Currie, expects Entail to become m.ore solid and prove capable as a four-year-old of winning good races. His performances this season include wins in the Great Northern Guineas and the New Zealand St. Logcr, while, though beaten into third place in the Great Northern St. Lcger, he was far from disgraced, seeing that tho race was run in record time and he was within a length of the winner. . |
