DEPARTING CURATE

REV. F. 0. BALL EULOGISED. High praise was given Rev. F. 0. Ball, curate at All Saints’, by the vicar (Canon G. Y. Woodward) Inrhis report to the annual meeting of parishioners last evening. Mr Ball has accepted the cure of the parish of Martinborough and is to. leave Palmerston North in about three months’ time. • “During his four years at All Saints’ Mr Ball lias endeared himself to parishioners both in the town and the country and is beloved by all,” stated the report. “He has a certain breezy and joyous manner and with it reliability, perseverence and keenness! To me his departure will 'mean a great loss because lie can be absolutely depended upon and never once has he failed in his duties. His churclimanship is sound and he understands the Catholic position of the Church of England. A preacher of no small repute, practical, efficient and a devoted priest, ho has given to vou of his very best. We wish liim God’s richest blessings in the parish where he will be vicar.”

Later in the meeting Mr 0. Monra.d, the vicar’s warden, referred to Mr Ball as “a quiet, hard-working, unassuming gentleman.” Canon Woodward indicated that enquiries had shown that there was a very distinct shortage of young clergy in New Zealand who could undertake Mr Ball’s position and that it might probably be necessary to take steps in England to secure a suitable curate.
