THE WOOL MARKET

FINAL WELLINGTON SALE. brokers' reports. Additional reports of brokers on the final Wellington wool sale of the season, held on Monday, aro as follow: LEVIN AND COY., LTD. Levin and C'oy., Ltd., report:—Our catalogue represented 6865 bales. The entry was largely composed of top-mak-ing wools. 'There were a few good style clips, and also some average halfbreds and Merino.. Competition was strong and animated, and well distributed. Halfbreds were on a par ( w:th March.Einc good style crossbred showed no change. Average cross beds were id to id down, due in a degree to lack of style compared with earlier sales. Good lambs sold at late rates, but inferior were rather neglected. Bellies, pieces, and locks showed more condition and cased by id to -Jd. Crutchings were not up in quality to past offerings, but sold relatively well. The season has thus gone through with little variation in prices. Prices have not been too high, particularly when exchange is taken into account, to prevent the wool from going into consumption rapidly, and will leavo the next season’s operations to open in a sound position. Owing to the general uplift in all qualities and grades, the returns this year for the Dominion through the auctions will be over £9,100,000, against £4,410,000 last year. Oven 700,000 bales have been sold, against 471,512 the previous year. AVellington will have sold ‘approximately 138,000. bales. Our own individual sales have totalled the satisfactory figure of 34,500 bales—a record quantity, and equal to one-fourth of the total sales in this centre. AVe have to thank our growers for their support. It is the highest total of any individual broker at any centre in the Dominion. It is pleasing to think that stores will now be free from the incubus of lield-over wools. The* following are some of the results :

The New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Distributing Co., Ltd., report The offering was 28,000 bales, to which we contributed 3804 bales. There was a full bench of buyers, representing Bradford, France, Belgium, Australia, Canada, United States, Germany, Japan and New Zealand scourers. Bidding was fairly keen, but did not show the animated and excited atmosphere that was so much in evidence at the last sale held here, and it was quite evident that some buyers had limited orders, which was no doubt responsible for erratic prices. Passings were fairly frequent, but quite a number of these can be accounted for by growers’ ideas of values being a little ahead of broilers’ valuations. The offering in our catalogue was fairly good for this time of the year, some of the early shorn clips being shown. There was an easing tendency at Monday’s sale, ordinary medium and coarse wools being a 3d- to id cheaper. Good attractive fleece wools sold well, for which we can quote the market very firm, and this also refers to good style hoggets. Good pieces sold well aiid held their own, but ordinary sorts were easier from id to id per lb. Bellies were firm to a id cheaper, while locks also declined about id per lb. Best lambs can be quoted firm to Id cheaper, while ordinary sorts were id to Id cheaper. Inferior and seedy lots

were difficult of sale and can be quoted Id to 13d cheaper, quite a number of these lots being passed in. Although the sale was disapointing there seems no reason for a serious decline in prices, as the statistical position of wool at the present time is in a very healthy state, and we are fairly optimistic as to the disposal of wools left on hand. /
