POHANGINA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, March 15. The fifth annual meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the hall, Miss Balnier presiding. To Mrs Adams and Airs L. Tews, who are in hospital, votes of sympathy were passed wishes for*a speedy recovery. Mrs W Howell's resignation was accepted with l-egrit, and Mcsdames J. Spelman and G. Klink wore enrolled as members. Mesdames Slovens and Orgias were appointed delegates to the annual conned meeting at Palmerston North. The report by the secretary (Airs Sinclair) stated: \\ o tan look back on a most successful and enjoyable time. Wc eomoneed the year with a membership of 32; two resignations were received with regret. The institute also suffered a loss in . the passing of Mrs G. G Culling, who was a keen and popular member. In spite of a serious illness, All’s Culling attended the meetings ivhenevor possible right up to the time of her death, and her kindly presence is sadly missed. Two new members have been enrolled, making tho number up to 31. Seats with backs on and a hoi-point on tho stage, supplied bv the Ifall Committee, have added greatly to the comfort of the members, and the institute showed its appreciation by giving a generous donation to the funds of tho Hall Committee A concert and Christmas party took the place of tile usual weekly meeting. Two well laden Christmas trees and a bountiful supper, provided bv the institute, gladdened tho hearts of the children. To Air and Mrs Lampon-Smith, of Singapore, who kindly lent the beautiful decorations, our thanks are extended. The finding of suitable demonstrations and demonstrators yearly becomes more difficult, hut our own members have been very loyal, and have supplied seven cf the ten ditnonstrations. The Drama Circle continues to do good work and, naturally, wo were very pleased when our - team won the clip m tho Women’s Institute Festival with the product ition of ‘The Witches’ Brew,’ and a B certificate in the area festival when. Professor Shelley acted as adjudicator. Our fourth birthday, which was celebrated with a concert and dance, was a success in every way, but a concert- and dance held in August for the funds did not come up to expectations. A link has been formal with the Maxwell Women’s Institute, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada, and wo look forward to many years of happy correspondence. Wc are also keen supporters of the Birds and Forests Protection Society, to encourage tho protection cf native birds and the planting of native trees, etc. Wc heartily thank the many kind helpers who have assisted in any way to make the year the success it has been.” A short report on drama activities, given by Aliss I). Watson, proved most interesting.
