SWIMMING
WEST END CLUB. Recently the West End Swimming Club brought its season to a- close when trophies competed for during the year were presented. Mr W. Schwa be, the president of the chib, in thanking members for the enthusiasm shown during the year, stated that the membership had been doubled, in tho ]>ast two years and the standard of swimming had improved. Credit was due to Mr A. M. Stevenson, their energetic secretary, who had devoted much of liis time to the younger swimmers. Though the club had not been successful in winning any of tho Ma.nawatu Centre championships, three of its members had gained second places. Miss Betty Schwabe had secured a second to Miss P. Sporlo in the ladies’ free-style championship; Miss P. Langford second in the intermediate girls’ 00 yards championship, and I. Dustin second in tho 220 yards open breaststroke championship. The West End School .boys’ team, who u'ere all members of tho club, had gained most points in the Manawatu combined schools’ competitions and held the Herbert Smith Trust Cup for the season. Junior club members also secured the major placings at the Palmerston North Technical High School’s swimming sports this season. Mrs Schwabs presented the trophies as follow: Ladies’ club championship (Club Cuii), Miss Betty Schwabe. with Miss P. Lampnrd runner-tip. Junior club championship (Penlceth Cup), F • Lindsay. Senior club championship (Dawick Cup), A. M. Stevenson. Junior aggregate (club trophy). F. Lindsay. Senior aggregate (club trophy). |> * Carlson.
