MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS. QUESTION OE PAYMENT. “T’he question, raised by the North Canterbury Board, as to wliethei't hospital boards should be relieved oil the responsibility of carrying out medical examinations of the unemployed, or, alternately, whether the boards’ medical officers should be remunerated for their services, baa been .fully considered by the executive,” s :ated a letter received by the Palme \ston North Hospital Board yestt relay from the New Zealand Hot pital Boards’ Association. “Being of the opinion that, 1 nder the present arrangement, hospital hoards are protecting themselves from having an undue number of what may be termed border-line cases thrown into Class C, ” added the letter, “the executive lias resolved that no departure should he made from the agreement which was entered into with the Unemployment Board in April, 1933, under which hospital hoard doctors are to examine the men at the instance of the Unemployment Board’s local officer.”
The letter was formally received, the chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow) commenting that the old order was changing. Tilings were, he said, in the melting pot, and the proposed legislation might remove any concern in tho direction mentioned.
