Rev. G. S. Cook arrived by train from Auckland to-day and will remain in town for a day or two. Mr J. E. Davies, instructor in agriculture in Dunedin, lias been transferred to Hawera, where he will take up the position of instructor for the South Taranaki district.

Captain M. 0. Grainger, chairman of the Dannevirko Electric Power Board and the Woodville County Council, is an inmate of a private hospital in Dannevirke. He is progressing favourably. The death occurred at Blenheim last night of Dr James Freeborn Bennett, F.R.C.S., Edinburgh, at the age of 56. He had conducted a long-established practice and was well-known in golf, tennis, and amateur athletic circles. His wife liad died just Over a week ago, and he is survived by a son and daughter, Flying-Officer Bennett, R.A.F., and Mrs K. Ivnocker. Mr F. W. Flyger, of the Argentine, arid formerly of Palmerston North, who has been absent from the Dominion for over 20 years, is paying a visit of three months’ duration to renew acquaintanceships in this country. Mr Flyger, who received his education at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, has been the guest of Mrs A. Brooke-Taylor, of Bainesse, for a few days, prior to visiting the Auckland district. He expects to return to this centre in about three weeks’ time. Mr A. P. Roydhouse, who for some time has been physical instructor at the Weraroa Boys’ Farm, Levin, has been transferred to Dunedin, and will leave on Saturday to take up his new duties. Mr Roydhouse was connected with physical training in Ota.go and at various times in Southland and South Canterbury for a period of eighteen years. Prior to his transfer to Levin, he was physical instructor at the Dunedin Training College, and consequent on the closing of the college he was appointed to a similar position at Levin, but will now return to his former position.
