TWO FOUR-POINT WINS. TO OPTIMISTS AND UNITED. Pleasant conditions prevailed for the continuation of the mid-week cricket competitions yesterday afternoon, when United and Optimists both registered four-point wins at the expense of Combined Services and P.D.C. respectively. OPTIMISTS v. P.D.C. On the opening day in the game let ween Optimists and P.D.C.. the former club had secured a winning position when they held an advantage of 41 runs at the termination of the first innings. Optimists had had 20 runs on in their second innings for the loss of one wicket at stumps and, on the resumption yesterday, they carried their total to i 19, Rice, who went in sixth wicket down, heading the returns with an excellent contribution of 30. Bowling for P.D.C., Rodgers proved to be the most successful trundler. golfing five wickets for 21 runs. Requiring 100 runs. P.D.C. made an indifferent showing at their turn at the wickets and were all out for 50, being thus lieaten by 104 runs. The only batsman to prove at all fruitful was D. Ward, who compiled 25. On the opening day United had run up 204 at their visit, to which Services had replied .with 75 for the loss of eight wickets. On the resumption yesterday the last two wickets fell for the addition of only one run, Jewett emerging with a hag of six wickets for 27 runs, while J. Gallichan took four for 37, the pair having howled unchanged. Being 128 runs in arrears, Combined Services were required to follow on, and they were dismissed for a total of 80 runs, Weir (24) and Miller (20) being the only batsmen to enter double figures. Jewett and Gallichan again carried the attack, the former taking five wickets for 28 runs and the latter four for 41. Detailed scores are as under:—. UNITED.
