TERRACE END
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Terrace End Improvement and Progressive Association was held in the Terrace End Bowling Club’s pavilion last evening. Mr F. J. Oakley presided and there were also present Messrs H. E. Townshend, J. J. O’Shea, S. H. Snell, F. C. Litchfield, E. Anderson, G. W. Mills, P. A. Holmes, and G. G. Priest (secretary). The chairman extended a cordial welcome to Mr Snell, who was present for the first time.
There were several apologies for absence. Mr Oakley, commenting that the membership was about 170, expressed regret that no ladies were present, and hoped that they would attend. Mr A. 4V. Thompson tendered his resignation from the committee owing to the pressure of his duties. The resignation was received with regret. The City Council advised that it had decided to instal two gas fires in the Coronation Hall at a cost of £24 ss, the gas consumed from time to time to he paid for by any tenant leasing the premises. The council advised that it had referred to the city engineer for investigation the paddocking of stock in Ferguson Street between Fitzrov and Ruahjne Streets and the request that the stock route be diverted along East Street. The by-laws were to be amended to enable stock to proceed along East Street. The council further advised that the electrical engineer would report on a request for additional lights in Main Street East between Weston Avenue and the railway crossing and halfway along Knowles and Limbrick Streets. Tho city engineer would investigate the nuisance caused by water backing up during wet weather at tho corner of Albert and Church Streets.
Appreciation was expressed of the decisions taken by the council, and it was decided to convey the association’s thanks. It was decided to request the P. and T. Department to erect a sign on tho corner of Main and Ruahine Streets indicating the presence of the Terrace End Post Office. SEALING OF STREETS.
The special committee set up at the last meeting reported that it had inspected the various streets in its area and submitted the following recommendations for the tar-scaling of streets in the next financial year:—Ruahine Street, from Church Street to Main Street; Fitzroy Street, from Church Street to Mam Street; Main Street, from Miller Street on the eastern side, also from the bus shelter to and along Vogel Street to Boundary Road ; Herotaunga Street, from Grey Street to the Hospital gates or Boundary Road; Featherston Street, from .Ruahine Street north to Vogel Street; Summerhays Street and Frederick Street. It was decided to submit the list to the City Council with the request tliat consideration be. given it when framing the estimates. TELEPHONE BOXES.
The chairman advised that requests had been made to the association for the installation of tolejihono boxes in several localities. It was decided to submit to the P. and T. Department a request for the consideration of boxes being erected at the corner of Albeit and Ferguson Streets, the corner of Fitzroy and Ferguson Streets, at the Hospital, and tho intersection of Main Street and Miller Street.
The erection of. a stamp-vending machine is also to he requested.
